Thanks for the reply Dane, I will occasionally access the modem by remotely reconfiguring the router it's attached to to check on transmission errors and what connection rate it's attaining. There is bad/old wiring somewhere on the ATT&T side; and I will end up with the odd speed or connection issue every now and then. So I suppose, I wasn't thinking initially that the way you guys have it configured out of the box technically limits the issue to those with physical access to it.

When I first found out about the exploit, it seemed like an incredibly simple thing to mess up. You can read the whole thing here: There's also an article on Ars Technica:. I had the same issue too. The modem would periodically lose sync for 5 minutes at a time for about a week, before it completely crapped out.

There are test points on the bottom of the PCB with clearly labeled supply levels. It turns out one of the electrolytic capacitors used in a voltage regulator was dead/dried up (I think it was on the 1.2V rail). I switched it out, and now it's running fine again. Here's a scope capture of the supply rail with the bad cap.
