I've discovered a workaround, and there may be an indication of the problem lurking in it. The tab button now moves you between tools and the measurements bar. After a bit of playing around I worked out this method. Start drawing a rectangle.
tab so the measurements box is selected. shift+tab so the measurements box is no longer selected. (the little (?) instructor icon should be selected) 4. Type in a measurement, with no spaces (because the spacebar will click on the selected icon) 5. After you hit return the rectangle should update it's size.
Works for me, but it's a real pain. Hope to see a fix soon. Hint: the measurements box will have a yellowish background when you're typing in a measurement. Bob 23.09.09 11:32. There are parts of this that relate to the 'space gives me model info instead of the Select Tool' issue. And Andy - the yellowish background is on your system. On mine it's blue (and blue by default), and it's related to the System Preference with keyboard having 'All Controls', toggled on a Mac via Control-F7.
Make sure that your dimension text isn't highlighted. You can see the tab sequence (starting lower left in SketchUp with Model Info. 4 tabs, and you're to the select tool). It'd be very helpful if you could try using the following steps when using the Measurements box and see if you continue to see the issue. Activate the Line tool. Click to start the line and move your cursor to explore setting the second point, but don't set it yet. Click in the Measurements box to give it focus. Type a value and press Enter. If so, skip step 3 and see if this corrects the issue. Jody bob 23.09.09 12:51.

Hello Jody, I just replied to a similar post but seem to have spoken to soon. When I do the thing you descibe it looks like the measurements box stops working. In Sketchup 7 I believe in case you wanted you could always escape from an action with a tool with esc. Key (this works in 6). After your described sequence this also seems to stop working.

It's as if your stuck in the measurements box. So first you got to get out of the measurements box altogether.
The only way to do that seems to be by selecting a tool with the mouse.first impression- I hope this helps. Bob On Sep 23, 9:17 pm, SketchUp Guide Jody.
