School Days is a legendary franchise for obvious reasons (Nice Boat). But before it broke ground for having the best/worst ending to an anime ever (besides Master of Martial Hearts, UGH), it was a cutting edge VN. Most of the game was fully animated and voiced, just like an interactive anime episode.
The only problem is that it hasn't aged gracefully. The original cutscenes are a jaggy, pixelated mess, and are very low quality. But fear not!
School Days HQ is here to fix that problem, with updated animation, new endings, and even new 'adult scenes'. The only reason this didn't get a 5 Star rating from me, is because there either isn't an option to play in HD, or I just can't find it (and I looked really hard).
You can expand the game to fullscreen mode, but it still ends up looking fuzzy. It's still miles above the original, but for a pretty recent-ish game (2012), the lack of HD visuals seems rather strange.
Watch the anime for the experience, but play this for the full story. Honestly, what I can say about School Days that every other otaku hasn't said already? You either love it or you hate it. I was introduced to School Days with its anime adaption (Again, you either love it or you hate it). When my former girlfriend (now my wife) told me that this anime was based on a computer game, I was intrigued. I was used to console games with only one or two endings.
The idea of a game with many stories and endings was an amazing concept. As I played this game, I felt like I was watching the anime.

The only difference was that I could control how the story would continue/end. The game itself is addicting and fully enjoyable.
However, I have to say, for the sake of censorship, this is not a game for children. This game is 18+ for a reason. I do recommend this for all geeks, whether it's your first visual novel or your 100th.
